Boss demands a full return to office after years of remote work, then works from home while his employees are forced to commute: ‘Leadership have different requirements’

"Dear employees, everyone must come to the office now, except for me. See you never!"

That is basically what the boss in the story below told his employees. After two years of working fully remote from home, this company decided that "in-person collaboration is essential", which means that every single employee must now come to the office every single day. 

Now, try to imagine yourself in the shoes of someone who, for two whole years, did not set foot in an office—having to go from working from home all day, every day, to the cruel reality of the morning commute, boring office desks, a terrible kitchen, and a bathroom line. Not only that, imagine the surprise when the employees got to the office and lo and behold, their boss was not there. Apparently, every Friday, the boss works from home, claiming he has strategic planning to do and can't afford the distraction of a full office.

You know who else would love to work without the distraction of the office, boss? Every single one of your employees!

  • These stories always make us wonder what the end goal of the companies is. Do they really expect their employees to accept these new conditions, without anyone realizing they are much better off in a different workplace? Or perhaps they are counting on people quitting, wanting to reduce the workforce without having to fire anyone?

    Either way, people are smarter than that, and they need an incentive to stay at a workplace after completely shifting their lives around because of a decision like this one. And that won't happen if the boss stays home while everyone else is forced to come to the office.

VP gets a bee in his bonnet and after two years we have to be in the office 5 days a week. But who's never in their office? Exactly that VP.   • Grind3Gd I was remote for 5 years. Got la d off. Took a massive pay raise and work in office. This past Monday I worked from home and did far more work. Now in the office I notice how many people are just talking or taking 2 hour lunches or something. I saw one guy today with cheat note on his screen for the game he was playing on his phone. We have a lot of meetings on computer, sometimes with people in the same building.
